Pawleys Island Beach, South Carolina

Pawleys Island

The beaches of Pawleys Island

Pawleys Island, South Carolina, located 68 miles north of Charleston and 24 miles south of Myrtle Beach, is known as one of the oldest summer resorts here on the East Coast.

Rice and Indigo plantations on the nearby rivers of Georgetown County first settled Pawleys Island in the early 1700's. Since it was unhealthy to remain on the rivers during the summer months and that the seashore was much healthier, planter's and their families moved there for the hot summer months. Even though they didn't know about malaria in the 1700's, they knew enough to get away! They moved their families, horses, cows, bedding, provisions and furniture to Pawleys in May of each year, where they remained until the first frost in November!

Pawleys Island, located on the south end of The Grand Strand is often referred to as, "the quiet end".  Mostly residential but boasting of great restaurants, golf, shopping, tennis, bike trails, rivers and lots of great fishing.  From the rivers to the sea, Pawleys Island has all you could ever hope for...Come live at the beach and ALWAYS be on Vacation!
