Off the Atlantic coast of South Carolina sits the inimitable Pawleys Island. Utilized as a summer resort since the eighteenth century, Pawleys Island is one of the most notable locales of the Grand Strand. The town, which bears the same name as the island, has a population of just 138 people (living in 81 households). The majority of people are aged between forty-five and sixty-four, and there are more women than men. The island proper is three miles long and a quarter of a mile wide, while the town is just one square mile.

Education
The public schools in Pawley Island are Waccamaw Elementary, Waccamaw Middle School and Waccamaw High School, a Palmetto Gold school. Private schools are available to residents as well, such as Low Country Day School, Pawleys Island Christian Academy and Pawleys Island Montessori Day School.
