Murrells Inlet, a historic fishing village founded in the late 1700s, is an unincorporated area of Georgetown County, South Carolina known for attracting tourists and retirees. Sitting three feet above sea level, Murrells Inlet occupies 7.5 square miles and houses 5,500 people.

Education
Schools in or around Murrells Inlet include Seaside Elementary School, St. James Middle School, St. James High School, Sacred Heart High School, St. Micheal Catholic School and Garden City Montessori School. Students attend class in either Horry County School District or Georgetown County School District. Higher education is available close by in Conway, specifically Coastal Carolina University and two-year school Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Recreation
Murrells Inlet is famous for its seafood, which has become a major facet of the local culture. It has been nicknamed the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina.” Restaurant Row is known for its award-winning seafood and barbecue restaurants. While seafood is what distinguishes Murrells Inlet, there is also a good mixture of Chinese, Italian, Thai and American places. Residents can go fishing and boating off the coast. Popular activities include golfing, parasail riding, canoeing and kayaking. There are also sights to be seen, such as Brookgreen Gardens, which is a wildlife preserve and also holds the largest outdoor collection of American sculptures in the world. Nearby Huntington Beach State Park is a popular destination at which people can see loggerhead turtles, alligators and minks, or just enjoy nature.
